1. Who is responsible
The person responsible for processing your personal data on The New Paper website is Carmen Zambrano, based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. You can contact her at carmenmazambrano@gmail.com.
2. What data we collect
When you subscribe to the newsletter we store:
- your email address;
- your name, if you choose to give it (optional);
- the fact that you gave your consent, and the date and time you did so;
- whether and when you confirmed your email address by clicking the confirmation link;
- where on the site you signed up (page or footer) and the language of the site at that moment.
To prevent abuse (for example automated sign-ups), a scrambled, non-reversible version of your IP address is used for a short time to limit the number of attempts; it is not linked to your subscription and expires within 24 hours. The hosting provider may also keep standard technical server logs.
3. Why we use it and on what legal basis
We use your data only to send you the newsletter with new articles and news from this website. The legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR, in Dutch the AVG). You are never required to subscribe to use the website. After you sign up we send you one email to confirm your address, and you only start receiving the newsletter once you click the link in it.
4. How long we keep it
Until you unsubscribe or withdraw your consent. After that your data is deleted from the subscriber list.
5. Who else can access it
We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. To run the website we rely on service providers that process data on our behalf: Vercel Inc. (hosting), Upstash (database where the subscriber list is stored) and Resend (email delivery). These providers may process data outside the European Economic Area, in which case they must apply appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
6. Your rights
You have the right to:
- access the data we hold about you;
- have it corrected or deleted;
- restrict or object to its processing;
- receive a copy of it in a portable format;
- withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting the processing done before.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).
7. How to unsubscribe or delete your data
Every newsletter will include an unsubscribe link that removes you immediately. You can also write to carmenmazambrano@gmail.com and your data will be deleted as soon as possible and in any case within one month.
8. Cookies
This website does not use tracking or advertising cookies. It stores one small functional cookie (NEXT_LOCALE) to remember your preferred language, and a session cookie that is only used by the site owner to manage the website.
